I never imagined becoming a face painter. My art background is in architectural engineering, where everything is precise and carefully measured. Face painting is a completely different world. You couldn’t find a bigger contrast than blueprints and a wriggly, giggling little face.Today, I offer professional face painting, festival glitter and glitter tattoos for events, birthdays and community celebrations across Ottawa.

I first picked up a brush as a volunteer at my daughter’s preschool. It wasn’t planned, just one of those “sure, I’ll help” moments. I was nervous, especially when I had to paint a child who wasn’t one of my own. But after a few minutes, it felt surprisingly natural.I feel incredibly lucky to have returned to creativity. After working in IT and project management, full of structure, deadlines and screens, face painting brought me back to what I’ve always loved: making things by hand, playing with colour, and connecting with people. The best part is the moment when a kid sees their reflection and lights up with pure joy. I still get butterflies every single time, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
REMOVAL & STAINING
Face paint can usually be removed with warm
water and mild soap. If any colour remains, it can
be easily removed with baby oil, coconut oil, olive
oil, oil-based makeup remover, or other skin-safe
products. Some pigments (especially darker
colours) may leave temporary staining on certain
skin types. No responsibility is taken for any
marks on clothing or personal items.HEALTH, SAFETY & HYGIENE
Face painting is only offered to children who are
healthy, able to sit still, and are happy to be
painted. The artist will not paint anyone who:
• shows signs of illness (e.g. fever, persistent
cough, pink eye)
• has cold sores, rashes, eczema, open wounds,
or any contagious skin condition
• is visibly unwell or upset, or unable to sit calmly
Only professional, skin-safe, hypoallergenic face
paints and cosmetic-grade glitters are used. Products are approved for cosmetic use by the
FDA, EU, and/or other safety regulators. Brushes,
sponges, and water are cleaned regularly, and
high-touch surfaces are sanitized throughout the
event.
Children with sensitive skin or allergies should
avoid face painting or may request a patch test at
the start of the event. While great care is taken, no
responsibility can be accepted for allergic
reactions, illness, or the transmission of germs or
viruses. The artist is not liable for any health
issues that may occur during or after the event.FACE PAINT DURABILITY
Face painting is temporary art. All face painting is done using water-based, cosmetic-grade products that are safe for use on children’s skin. These paints are not waterproof. Sweating, water exposure, physical activity, or touching the painted area may result in smudging, fading, or early wear.
Face paint may not adhere properly or may wear off prematurely if sunscreen, lotion, oils, or other skincare products have been applied to the skin prior to painting.
There is currently no child-safe setting method available.
In case of discomfort or significant smudging, face paint should be removed.
Repainting may be possible at the original cost, depending on time and availability. Requests will be accommodated at the discretion of the artist and based on the flow of the event.AGE LIMIT & PARTICIPATION
Face painting is only offered to children aged 3
and up who can sit still and are happy to be
painted. It is voluntary and should be a positive
experience. The artist may refuse to paint anyone
who is unwilling, overly restless, or upset.BEHAVIOUR & SAFETY
The artist is responsible only for the painting
service. Children remain the responsibility of the
hosting adult(s) at all times. Please ensure
children are supervised and not running or
playing near the painting setup. In case of
equipment damage due to guest behaviour,
replacement costs may apply.WHAT’S NEEDED FOR SETUP
Face painting should take place in a shaded or
sheltered area, especially for outdoor events.
A shady spot is strongly recommended to keep
children comfortable and to protect both the
artist’s materials and the kids from sun exposure.10x10 canopy can be provided upon request for additional $20 to cover setup and transportation costc.
A table and one chair will be needed only if previously agreed otherwise, the artist will bring
their own setup if required.WORKING CONDITIONS
In the case of adverse conditions (e.g. extreme
weather, unsafe environment, inappropriate
guest behaviour), the artist reserves the right to
stop painting. If the issue is not resolved, no
refund will be given for the remaining time.
